Chiang Rai Gushu Shai Hong 2023 - 30g

Sun-dried black tea (shai hong) sourced from the Giang Rai region, a well-known area in northern Thailand where old tea trees used for puerh production grow. This area, known as the 'Golden Triangle', includes Yunnan, of course, but also Myanmar, northern Laos, Thailand and Vietnam. The trees are often in hard-to-reach locations and are always hand-picked.

The altitude of the hand-picked trees is around 950 m, the Assamica cultivar and the Gushu trees, the age of the tree is reported by the producer to be well in excess of the base 200 years (Gushu = 200 years or more). I don't want to argue over the exact age, what is important is the flavour and character of the tea, the yield at infusion. From this one can distinguish whether it is Gushu or shrub tea.

A delicate, complex and refined black tea with a floral-honey aroma, a taste of dried exotic fruit, with a hint of cocoa on the edge and a lingering sweet aftertaste. A black tea very suitable for sheng puerh drinkers and of course for red tea lovers. It has a great staying power, I gave 6 infusions during the first test and could go on without any problem.

The tea is also suitable for aging in leaf form, gradually rounding out in flavour and showing more notes of dried fruit, sweetness.

Packed in 30g packs due to the size of the leaf.

Brewing: 100ml, 4-5g, 90°C, 20-30s first and second infusion, then extend the interval, according to the taste of each tea drinker. Lasts 6 infusions, or more.
