Chiang Rai Ruan Zhi Ruby Black 2024 - 50g
.
High altitude black tea from northern Thailand, from the Chiang Rai region.
The tea was harvested in March this year - 3/2024 from the Ruan Zhi cultivar, the age of the tea plants is 35 years growing at an altitude of 800-1000m, which makes this tea high altitude.
Unusually for a black tea, it was processed as a classic black tea and then rolled into the bead form that is typical of oolongs. Also, this tea is very reminiscent of Taiwanese hong oolongs from the Lu Ye Taitung region.
The tea is beautifully processed into reddish brown beads and the aroma of the dry leaf is an intense combination of ripe fruit, cane sugar.
The flavour profile is really the closest to the aforementioned hong oolong from Lu Ye, TW. The colour of the infusion is amber.
The taste of the tea is full-bodied, intense, combining ripe fruits - peaches, apricots, forest honey, cinnamon and a long, sweet aftertaste.
