Hero Inside - Chiang Rai Gushu Sheng 2017 - 100g
Sheng from the Giang Rai region, in northern Thailand, a well-known area where old tea trees used for puerh production grow. This area, known as the 'Golden Triangle', includes Yunnan, of course, but also Myanmar, northern Laos, Thailand and Vietnam. The trees are often in hard-to-reach locations and are always hand-picked.
The altitude of the hand-picked trees is around 950 m, the cultivar is Camelia sinensis, the variety Assamica and the age of the Gushu trees, the producer states the age of the tree well beyond the base 200 years (Gushu = 200 years or more). I don't want to argue over the exact age, what is important is the flavour and character of the tea, the yield in infusions. From this one can distinguish whether it is Gushu or shrub tea.
A delicate but very hearty, complex and refined sheng. The aroma of dry leaf is delicate, beautifully sweet, spicy, mountain herb.
The taste is sweet, juicy, full, clean with a hint of woodland herbs and chamomile. With short, almost instant pour-overs, you can expect countless delicious, delicate infusions.
The tea is suitable for ageing, gradually rounding out in flavour and showing more herbal notes and sweetness. However, it is already delicious now.
Brewing: 100ml - Gong fu Cha - 3-4g, 90°C, 20-30s first infusion, subsequent infusions to be poured immediately, extending the time interval only when the tea loses its strength.
