The author of the chawan is Japanese ceramicist Mori Hōzan (森宝山), a representative of traditional Bizen-yaki ceramics from Okayama Prefecture.
He was born in 1947 as the eldest son of ceramicist Mori Hōzan and continued the family tradition of producing Bizen ceramics. He studied at the Okayama Ceramic Institute and gradually became one of the most respected artists of this style.

Awards and exhibitions
1967 – Okayama Mayor's Award at the Okayama Prefecture Art Exhibition (received a total of 6 times).
1971 – Accepted to the 1st Japan Ceramic Art Exhibition (accepted a total of 9 times).
1973 – Accepted to the 1st China-Japan International Ceramics Exhibition.
1974 – Accepted to the 21st Exhibition of Traditional Crafts of Japan.
1978 – Awarded at the Japan Kōgeikai Chūgoku Exhibition (3 times); also awarded the Okayama Chamber of Commerce and Industry Prize.
1979 – Awarded at the International Ceramic Exhibition (exhibition associated with Prague).
1981 – Became a full member of Japan Kōgeikai (Japan Crafts Association).
1982 – Accepted at the 20th anniversary Asahi Ceramic Exhibition.
1989 – Accepted at the 1st Ceramic Biennale '89.
1990 – Accepted at the Fletcher Challenge International Ceramics Award in New Zealand.
