Red Jade black tea no.18 - Hong Yu
This black tea is undoubtedly the finest representative of black teas from Taiwan. It is a beautifully twisted Bao Zhong style leaf from a tea cultivar that was created by crossing the Assam strain from Burma and the Taiwanese wild tea tree.

This tea offers a full-bodied Assam flavor and a lushly fruity taste and aroma of wild plum, traces of cinnamon, and a hint of fresh menthol in the background. This tea is also multi-flavoured, just like Taiwanese oolongs.
Like Assam No.8, this tea was grown at Sun Moon Lake until the end of World War II. After that, the plantations were neglected for a long time until the 1999 earthquake, when they were restored. Yuchih township was severely affected by the earthquake and many villages were completely devastated, not only by tremors but also by landslides. Afterwards, the local people decided to plant tea trees on the slopes to ensure stability - thus coming to the same conclusions as the Japanese did 80 years ago. This tea therefore has a very interesting story.

Brewing: 100 ml, 4-5g of tea, 98C water, first pour 30-40s, then extend time interval. 3-4 infusions.
