Zhu Shan Gui Fei Oolong - 50g

This tea comes from the Zhu Shan region, was hand-picked at an altitude of around 500m and comes from the TTES.12 - Jin Xuan cultivar. The oxidation level is 60-70% and it is lightly roasted in the final stage.I bring this tea several times a year and always stock the current harvest!

Gui Fei oolong is a very remarkable tea, not only for its unique taste but also for its story.

The first story tells how this tea was first processed. It was only recently introduced to the market, specifically in the aftermath of the catastrophic earthquake of 21 September 1999, which not only affected the lives of the local people but also the work of the tea growers.

People in the famous Dong Ding area were busy repairing their homes and workshops, and the tea plantations were left neglected. The abandoned tea plantations were a paradise for the green locusts that enjoyed the juicy tea leaves. The disturbance of the leaves caused a defensive response by the tea bushes and an attempt to regenerate, which led to an increase in the polyphenol content of the leaves. This also caused an increased tannin content and subsequently, after processing the tea, the result was a rich, wildly honeyed aroma and a pleasantly sweet taste.

The second story relates to the name of this tea. As it is the second 'invaded' tea grown in the northern part of the island after Oriental Beauty, the growers decided to name it in honour and celebration of beauty in Chinese history. Specifically, this tea is named after Yang GuiFei, who was a beauty that so captivated the Chinese Emperor XuanZong that he took her as his wife. She was one of the women who greatly influenced the history of her country with her beauty, and Gui Fei tea will certainly win you over.
