Jonathan studied ceramic art at Oregon College of Art and Craft (OCAC) where he built foundations and connections in the wood-firing communities in the Pacific Northwest of the USA. He first fell in love with gongfu tea while tasting Taiwanese Oolong roasted on the coals of the Anagama Kiln and began devoting his practice to teaware while Resident Artist at Pleasant Hill Pottery in Oregon, USA in 2016. In 2024 he was Resident Artist at Togei no Mori in Shigaraki, Japan and in 2025 established his personal studio in Redmond, WA, USA.
Jonathan uses a blend of stoneware and porcelain clays, with wild glacial deposits of clay and sand from around Puget Sound near where he lives. He is involved with wood-firing communities in Oregon and Washington and fires Anagama as well as western-style wood kilns using Douglas Fir, Red Alder, Maple, Walnut, Oak for heat and ash.
