Kaneroku Yakusugi Houjicha - 50g

Houjicha is from the Shimada area of Shizuoka Prefecture. The tea is smoked with cedar wood from Yakushima Island, Kagoshima Prefecture. Although it belongs to the green tea category, I keep it among the black teas because of the color and taste of the tea.
A truly unique, expressive houjicha, but its smoky cedar wood component does not overpower the taste of the Houjicha and within moments it melts on your tongue into a delicate flavor with a lingering aftertaste.
This Houjicha won a gold medal at the 2018 Japan Tea Festival. The flavour combines overpowering nuttiness, a subtle sweetness with the taste of smoked cheese. A very unique and interesting combination, which I can also imagine paired with some good cheese, or for a post-delicious breakfast.

Preparation 150 ml: First infusion - 85-90C, 4-5g, 40-60s.
For subsequent infusions, slightly increase the infusion time, according to personal preference.
