Takeuchi Kimaki Ash Glaze Vase
.
The creator of this small vase—a hanaire—is the late ceramic master Takeuchi Kimiaki (1945–2011). The set also includes an original signed Tomobako box, a shifuku cloth, and a certificate with a biography. His work is represented in leading museums around the world.
Takeuchi Kimiaki was a prominent figure in modern Tokoname ceramics; over several decades, he built an excellent reputation and received numerous awards.
His work is characterized by the use of clay from the Tokoname region and ash glazes; he drew inspiration from medieval Japanese ceramics, which he reinterpreted into modern forms. The main elements of his work are traditional aesthetics, modern simplicity, and high-quality craftsmanship.
He was part of a group of Tokoname potters who studied ancient anagama kilns, following in the footsteps of his teacher Izaki Essei.
